Another Reason to Go Vegetarian

I've been an on-again off-again vegetarian for the last few years. It's been hard to maintain my vegetarianism during my pregnancies - hence, the "off-again" part. But after reading the latest news on what the meat industry is doing, I'm seriously thinking of going vegetarian again.
For years, meat manufacturers have been injecting meat with carbon monoxide to give it a fresh, pink look. The CO2 binds with a pigment in the meat and keeps it nice and red. The process has been banned in many other countries including Europe, Canada and Japan. This week, Congress is debating whether it should be banned in the United States as well.
Uh, what? Gross! [Continue reading about the insanity at Moms Speak Up]

I am the same as you with vegetarianism. Off and on. I say I'm an omnivore who doesn't need to eat much meat. ;)

But that? is gross. How is it even a question?!?!

Aesthetics matter more than health?

I've had to cut back meat even more because the grilling process inserts more hydrocarbons than my body can handle along with all the POLLUTION in the air. It makes me wicked sick.

Similarly, I've had to change hygiene products (made with coal tar), check out locally grown food carefully, and increase my detoxification. Chelation might be next if I can't shed it better.

That is truly disgusting. Even though we're in Canada, when I do buy meat, it's organic or as natural as possible.

that's disgusting. *retches*

ew.

ewwwwww.

may I say, again, that I buy meat grown locally; grown in free-range environments, locally, where the store that sells the meat checks in on the process on occasion to determine that all is going as it ought to be. that the animals are living a decent life. etc.

(not that I don't respect hell outta you for being veggie. I like bacon too much to take the plunge. *blushes*)

We only eat meat when we've been invited to someone's house, or at restaurants. That's gross, for real! They're shooting meat up with the crap that comes out of the muffler on your car!!!! Ewwwww!

Wow! I've been on and off too, but I think I might go more veggie after reading that. My husband hunts, which I know is controversial for some, but at least I know where most of our meat comes from. I think that is an especially important now.

And yeah, how is this even a question?!?
