Losing My Virginity

Remember when you first started blogging? Remember how excited you got when you someone visited your blog and left you your first comment EVER? Would you go so far as to say it felt like someone had popped your blog-cherry? I would. It didn't really hurt, but it DID feel like something had changed. In a good, rite-of-passage type way.

Well, I recently realized that I've been sleeping with you reading some of your blogs for up to 5 months now and in most cases I still don't know your story--the story behind your blog that is. For instance:

Who are the doctors and why are they bald?

What ARE you doing in that handbasket?

Why is the "K" in the Silent K silent?

And what the heck does Dribblingwitt??? ... mean?
I'm sure I could go searching through each and every one of your archives to find out the backstory behind your blog. But I am lazy. So I am asking you: What's your story? How did you decide on the title/tag line for your blog?

Oh, and if you're wondering what the deal is with my tag line, you can read my very first post, A Few Words for the Record.

But, hey, if you do read that post, please leave me a comment if you can. Cuz let's face it, just because I'm not a virgin anymore, doesn't mean I don't still wanna get laid.

Haha. I remember my first blog cherry popper. She doesn't come around much now, but whenever I get a comment from her it makes me really happy. Because she was the first "stranger" who ever commented on my site.

When I started my blog The Silent K, my intent was to use it mostly as a knitting blog. The "k" in the word "knitting" is silent, and my name also starts with "K" In person, I'm kind of a quiet person... so, it fit. I rarely post about knitting anymore though, so I've had a few people jokingly call me "Rista"

I too can remember the first time someone I didn't know left a comment on my blog. I couldn't help but think -- wow... you mean people are actually reading this stuff??!!

I have posts somewhere in my archives about how I chose my blog name. I know it had a lot to do with being accused of complaining a lot. Add in being Jewish and you get Kvetch. Ta Dah! As for comments, I'm still amazed at them each day. They are my drug of choice. I always want more (it's a problem and I'm working on it, isn't admitting you've got a problem the first step to recovery?)

You are definitly not a virgin anymore. 58 comments on a post makes you a very popular girl;) I agree with k., when I started my blog I had no idea people would look at it (this was before I found the mommy blog circle). When I got my first comment from a random stranger, who had probably hit the NextBlog button, it was freaky.

Your first post was funny, yo! That shit did hurt like a mofo, didn't it?

About the title of my blog...'going to hell in a handbasket' has always been one of my favourite quotes, one I use frequently. I was on a website a long time ago and I saw that quote, "Where am I going...and why am I in this handbasket?", and I thought it was funny, because of my past history with the handbasket quote.

I decided last summer while heavily pregnant with Oliver that I wanted to start a blog and I knew then that I wanted to use that quote for the title of my blog. It's just so fitting for me, and I thought it was kinda catchy.

Thanks for asking. :)

Goodness. i can't even remember who left my first stranger comment. I know I was thrilled beyond belief though! I still am. Whenever anybody leaves me a comment and I don't know them I immediately click over to their site and see who they are and try to figure out where they came from!

Long-time reader finally delurking to answer your question. Three months after my daughter was born, I discovered blogs. Yeah, I was a little late to the party but better late than never. I started a blog to record my daughter's first year and named it after her. Now, she's nearly 16 months old and as our fun together continues, so does my blog, The Delaney Diaries.

Thanks for drawing me out of my shell to comment!

So, Little Bald Doctors. You wanna know how I got the name, huh? It's from Stephen King's book Insomnia. The two main characters, Ralph and Lois, were beginning to hallucinate (or so they thought) due to chronic insomnia and they were beginning to see these beings Ralph nicknamed the Little Bald Doctors. The Little Bald Doctors were fate personified, but the main reason I named this blog after these beings isn't because of fate or destiny or anything so whimsical. It's because Ralph and Lois thought they were going batshit crazy, and I've often felt the same even though I don't suffer insomnia (unless you call a child kicking you in the chest and head all night insomnia). They were actually beginning to believe they were crazy. Huh. Me too, sometimes. I once read -- where I read it I can't be sure -- that crazy people never doubt their own sanity. Is that true? Or do crazy people know they aren't all there but are powerless to stop it? That is the question... Plus, the white coat thing fits with the Crazy.

Of course, I'm also a comment whore. I like them laid on me at every available opportunity. My first non-family commenter was Jaelithe and I actually got to meet her a couple weeks ago. Awesome.

These are interesting! Thanks for asking the question.

Krista, I've thought of you as Rista before too!!

I think mine is pretty self-explanatory. Tacy is Goosie, CJ is Mousie, I'm their mother. And my tagline has changed multiple times, but my general blog description remains the same.

How interesting....the post and the comments! I'm quite the lurker, I read awhile before I comment. Sometimes I feel like I'm crashing a party when I do finally comment...haha!

I remember when I first started to get comments I was like...hello why would they come here!? Getting them now is still like Christmas! :) I started the blog after lurking other blogs. I realized I was not a writer, would never be, so I thought 'more likely to talk about nothing than something' fit. (And I stole it from a movie!)

Oh, yeah...thanks for coming to see me. I still love love love comments. ;)

With as many comments as you get per day, I think you've gone from blog virgin to "she who gets around". (But in a good way - really!)

My first commenter was Dutch from Sweet Juniper. I was reading him on Blogging Baby at the time, and was floored that he took the time to come visit my new blog.

My blog has no funny name. It was simply all I could think of at the time, and it was available. And I don't even use a fake name - my name really is Christina.

Yeah, I know, I'm an internet security advisor's worst nightmare.

Maniacal was a nickname of mine at my old job. My madien name started with a M, and they called me Maniacal M******. So rather than putting my last name.....I added Days. It worked. =o)

Oh boy. I still can't believe anyone reads my blog. I do remember my first comment though, I was blown away. Why Babaloo? Hmm... It is sort of a nickname I had in college (Sue Babaloo) that evolved into my alter-ego. I guess by blogging as Babaloo I'm trying to re-capture some of that adventurous spirit I used to thrive on back when people called me Babaloo.

I chose Manic Mommy's Musings, not because I am manic depressive, but because I sometimes feel manic, like I'm running around in circle and going absolutely no where. So I meant manic in that sense. And my blog is like my journal and I wanted another "M" word, so I chose musings.

And I was so excited when I got that first comment. And I won't lie, I'm still excited over comments!

MamaTulip- love it. Now please explain why "Mama Tulip"...

Andrea - Just when I thought I couldn't love you any more, you go and link your blog to Stephen King. Love his books.

I just started blogging in April. I remember my 1st comment. I started jumping around the living room. Me and her are actually pretty good internet buddies now. I love comments!

My blog is "A day in the life of... Not the statndard american family." My family is anything but ordinary. I am a young mom, who has 2 girls 6y and 8m, newly engaged, and buying a new home. We do things a little bakwards. That pretty much sums it up. I mostly write about the day to day chaos I call life.

Good questions. I am too lazy to check back in archives too. My blog title came from the many moments I've had as a mom. Moments where I feel like I've lost my mind. That mommy brain you get after you have a baby, always forgetting where your keys are or putting a box of cereal in the fridge instead of back in the pantry where it came from.

I think your tag line is just perfect because it doesn't need any explaining at all. (Which isn't to say I'm not heading to that post right after this just to see what you have to say.)

My line is pretty self explanatory: I don't know what I'm doing either. Once I found a url that wasn't taken, it sort of wrote it self. I scribbled it down and that was that.

Meanwhile, I totally remember my first blog commenter. I'll write a tribute to him sometime. Just some guy surfing who added a haiku to my new mom haiku post. He did it wrong but still, I loved it.

Great post!

I feel like I've watched you grow up *sniff* :) I've been reading you since the beginning and you've just gotten better over time.
Anyway, with regard to the blog naming thing:
I was on my parents boat one day when I saw this other boat with this lone woman on it. She was sitting there on the deck, drinking a cocktail and reading a book with her feet up. She looked so peaceful and relaxed. In that instant I could almost feel how she felt...blissful. The name of her boat? "Stolen Moments"...hence, the name of my blog, which fit nicely with the idea that few of us women take the time for a few "Stolen Moments" of our own.....

My "first" blogger love was Motherhood Uncensored. Aaaaah. Truth is, I'm still crazy about her.

I called my blog Mother May I because the site where I promote my books is called Maypapers and I thought it'd be cool to tie it in. Plus, if ever a grown up asks that question, I just know they're up to no good. And I like that!

Glad to have found you MOTR.

Okay, the history behind mamatulip:

Dave used to call me Tulip. He calls me Babe more now, LOL, but I love it when he calls me Tulip. He used to call me Tulip all. the. time...people made fun of him, but he still did. Awwww.

When I first got pregnant with Julia I started posting on a mommy board and I needed an online name. Tulip was taken and I was kinda bummed, but then I figured if I was gonna be a mama, I could just merge the two together. Like, I'm a mama, and a tulip. mamatulip.

I am so caught up in the comments... They are amazing...
I want to print them all out..
As usual Mommy off the Record you are bang on the money with your blog...

You asked so I will tell

I had a best friend and he died. He was witty, smart, funny sarcastic, well read, intellectual, and I hate to say etc. but he was so much to me and there is only so much you can write about him without writing a book.
I lost a great deal when he died in 2001.
I have friends. A great many and they are all special... But not like him...
We could talk about anything...
Anything that popped into our heads... and they were all stories...
We never interupted each other with comments such as 'I have a better one'... Or 'I know I know'... we always let the person finish their story with no interuptions and then comment...
It was a terrific journey...It did not matter if the story was told before because if you listened it could have a whole new twist..

But when he died that story part of my life died.

And through the internet I have found my voice in telling stories again.

I am able to write as I would have talked to him on some levels...

I am able to read amazing stories and 'hear' them from beginning to end... I am able to comment and admire some pretty spectacular writings from the bloggers out there. I love the stories as they are are witty, sad, smart, sarcastic, loving and I am hooked.

As for my monikker...
When I first found the internet many moons ago, I chose the name Pendullum... For the back and forth feeling of a pendulum... and how dull it can be waiting for the reply(It was in the age of chaos, when phone lines and high speed access were just dreams)through the 'instant messanger.'

Well, I convinced my late friend that he should have a monniker for when we wrote each other on the internet... And since he was one of the wittiest men I have ever met it became a logical fit..
Together, we came up with Dribblewit... So... My blog is a real tribute to our friendship...
as we were always Dribblingwitt!

So that is my story and I am sticking with it!!!

As with all of you...
I love visiting all of you...and I love making comments and reading them...

Still a virgin in this blogging thing... and someday I may figure out the design aspect... but in the meantime... I just post my pics and my random rattlings that are in my head...

"Ginny's many words" originally was "Ginny's many words you shouldn't live by." IN a blog redesign my hubby dropped "you shouldn't live by," and I have yet to get on him about replacing it. I came up with the tag line 'cause I thought it was witty or something. You know, a play on "words to live by." Words NOT to live by. Don't call me lame!

My blog used to be "Moonshine" because i find moonlight to be incredibly relaxing and calming and it's kind of a visual touchstone for me. But I got tired of people always finding me while searching for info on how to MAKE moonshine. I chose it in about 3 seconds as I was filling out my Blogger registration.

Eventually I changed it to IzzyMom because I'm Izzy and I'm a mom.

Not very exciting is it? lol

I am a big dork! I started the blog because my good friend (who started a blog to record her adoption of their daughter from China) was heading off to China and I thought I couldn't "talk" to her on her blog without having a blog of my own, so my blog was born. After they got back, and I was reading hers all the time and other "mommy" blogs, I decided to start mine and see if I enjoyed writing as much as I used to. Guess what? I did! The title is Third Time's a Charm? because I have 3 kids and right now, at age 2 and the only girl, my 3rd is anything BUT charming, although she sure does fool others!
