One is the Loneliest Number

Especially when referring to orphan earrings. And in particular when referring to the very sentimental and heirloom-potential pink sapphire and diamond earrings that Husband bought me for Christmas last year and which came in a set of two originally (one for each ear of course) and that now (alas!) appear to have been separated, which I discovered yesterday when I went hunting for them and found only ONE earring where two should have been. Yes, that's just ONE sapphire and diamond earring, not TWO. GAH. But I have two ears! Double GAH.

I know there are more important matters in this world than a lost earring, but for just today I would like to observe a moment of whiny, pathetic crying for my lost earring. So please plug your ears.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!

OK, that kinda helped. A little. But honestly, I still feel like crap.

Anyone have a medal detector I can borrow?

*sigh*

Ack! This is the story of my jewelry box. The hubby knows that I am not good with jewelery unless it's my wedding ring (which I only put on recently since my fingers are much more human and less like sausages).

You could always make it into a nice semi-precious nose-ring. ;)

If you find it can you help me find my engagement ring I "put" in a safe place a few years ago. I can't find it now! :(

Oooooh, they are GORGEOUS...well, OK...that ONE is gorgeous.
Good luck! Hope you find it.
Ask the kids....and see who looks guilty. :D

It really stinks when that happens doesnt it? I think there is a jewelry box monster that eats ONE of EVERYTHING!

Ack! I feel your pain. Totally lost my wedding ring. Sigh.

If you don't find it you can always have the orphan reset into a ring.

Hey, you could make one earring cool again. Start a trend.

So sad. Sniff. I feel your pain. I've given up on jewelry until my life slows down and my mommy brain goes away. Oh yeah, and the kids are old enough to know that stuff isn't candy, well, at least not the consumable kind. Hope you find it's partner.

What a beautiful sad lonely earing....
There is an old wives' tale that says for you to go to the cupboard and take a mug and turn it rightside up and think of what you have lost and if it was meant to be it will be found,,,,
I would turn over every mug in the cupboard for that one...
I feeeeeeeeeel your pain Cristina!!!!

Yikes! My mom lost a diamond out of her ring a while ago. She knew it fell out of her ring in her bedroom, but no amount of crawling on the floor or sifting through vacuum bags ever resulted in the diamond.

Sigh...

Oh no!

Just think of it this way, if the missing earring did make it back into the house with its partner then it should still be in the house somewhere. I'd start looking in your closet. Maybe it got stuck in a sweater.

Oh, that is the worst! I hope they turn up soon.

That sucks - I hope you find the other one soon. I know what it's like to lose jewelry you really like and with sentimental value. Maybe you can make it into a necklace charm?

That stinks! My daughter is always losing hers, but since she doesn't have any that are worth anything (money or sentimentality) it isn't so bad. She occasionally wears two different earrings anyway. Good luck trying to find it!

I have orphan earrings only because I'm lazy. I take them out of my ears and put them wherever...and then cry when one is lost. Ugh.

When stuff is lost, we say this funny little prayer.

"Saint Anthony, please come around, something's lost and must be found." Usually it works.

Happy earring hunting!

Oy. It's beautiful! Can you just style your hair over one ear?

BTW, I have a contest up at my new review blog for the loverly item you saw in my recent post at P&P:

Thanks for the condolensces everyone. I'm feeling better already. :)

Mary-Lue: Oh my goodness! Not your engagement ring! Gah!

Jenny: you lost your wedding ring? Yikes! That could happen so easily. Given my penchant for losing things, I plan to never take mine off again.

Pendullum: I will try the mug thing. I half believe in that stuff.

Snarflemarfle: Oh no. Losing a diamond out of a ring is terrible. I once lost a ruby out of a necklace and I knew I'd never find it.

Dana: I'll definitely chant that a few times. Couldn't hurt!

I think that lost solo earrings go to the same magical place that disappearing solo socks go. Hmmm...it's a mystery.

I hope it turns up for you!

THis is the reason the only piece of jewelery I own is a wedding ring. Its a miracle I've lasted 6.5 years without losing it. More than once.

That just plain sucks ...

My mom got me a pair of diamond earrings for my 16th birthday. By the time I was 19 I had already lost one. I'm not sure I ever told her. My ears aren't pierced anymore so she's never asked.

I hope you find it!

Oh no that is awful! I feel for you!

Maybe you can make it into a pendant or something if the second one doesn't turn up ...that or get your belly button pierced.

yeah-my only 'real' jewelry is my wedding set. Which RIGHTNOW I am not allowed to wear my engagement ring b/c the stone is (coff-coff) a bit loose. So, I have to trek over the hills and far away to have it fixed.
Well. an hour. He wants me to go to where it came from so there is less of a chance that someone will swap out the stone. (paranoid?)

I hope it turns up! It's beautiful. Just breathe and tell yourself you will find it! (That usually works for me, even when it doesnt!)

Or, you'll have to get an extra piercing in one ear, so you can wear the one you have left with another pair of earrings!

That is a beautiful earing!! Sorry that the other is missing. I generally do not have jewelery that is not worn so I would have no idea where to look for a missing one! Wish you much luck finding it though!

I love those earrings so much, I was the one who took the other one! HAHAHAHA (evil laugh)

Hope the missing earring shows up. You never know.

socks and earrings are such a pain to keep track of...I do sympathize with you....simply because I now its the meaning behind those earrings that make them so special. Hopefully you will find the other one.

I am so sorry you lost your earring! You could always do what I did when I was 18 and I lost one of the diamond earrings my now-hubby bought me for my 17th b-day, I pierced my ear again, only once so I have 2 holes in one ear and 1 in the other - the thinking at the time (teenage thinking) was that I could wear it forever that way . . . sentimental. Where is it now? In my jewlery box!!! LOL!

Hello there! Fell off the blog-o-sphere for a while. Whenever I loose an earring I do the following:

1. Look under the bed. Waaaaay under the bed.
2. Check the vacuum cleaner bag.
3. Did it fall off inside your clothing? Sometimes they tumble into a pocket if you take your shirt off before removing your earrings.
4. I untangle other jewelry in my jewelry box - usually it's in that mess alright!

Cheers!

Awww. I hope you find it soon. But if you don't, can you find a way to make it into a pendant or ring?

Thanks all! I may just have to turn it into a pendant if I never find it again. I'm still holding out hope though...
