Peace on Earth and Goodwill to Men

That is, unless you happen to be part of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association.

According to the Associated Press, the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs, Colorado is taking a zero tolerance approach when it comes to peace-loving holiday decor this year:
A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado has threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti-Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.

It's like the damn condo boards telling you where and how you can hang your Christmas lights. WTH?

Great post. I hope she leaves it there.

See - this is why I'm nervous about the house we just bought. The neighborhood has a home owners association (which I've never had before) and I just hope it's not that bad... :sigh:

Ditto with Catch. It's bad enough I feel the pressure to put out the Holiday goods the first weekend after Thanksgiving!

I have never heard of the peace sign as a symbol of the devil! That is so funny!

Not sure I would be too fond of being told I could not hang a peace sign.

I've resigned myself to just being offended at people who are so easily offended;>

How do they enforce the fine? Do you get to fine your neighbours in the US? I can see it would be fun.

HOA's are the devil, someone needs to give those damn people a salt and vinegar enima.

If I were that homeowner, I'd put up a wreath that says "Eat Me" and paste cookies on it.

This is insane. I first read about it on MSNBC.com and apparantly the Homeowners Assoc. president fired all his board members when they tried to veto him. Tis the season!

(Enjoyed, and can relate to your previous post! Glad you aren't stopping completely.)

I could never live in a condo for this reason. That kind of dictatorship won't fly with me, especially when the people calling the shots are just plain wacko.

The world NEVER ceases to amaze me.
Poor woman, she is going to have to cave, how can she afford to stand her ground or go legal?

My dad is president of his condo association. You would not BELIEVE the things they disallow. No american flags, because it is illegal to leave them out over night and people don't take them down. Seriously, people just don't have anything better to do with their time.

People like that are just the eppitomy (sp?) of hipocritical!

Isn't THAT exactly what they are over there fighting to protect? The freedom to disagree and the voice your opinion? Sheesh!

I'm not necessarily for the war perse, but it makes no sence that the people who ARE for the war don't see that! UGH!

No one says "Merry Christmas" better than a homeowner's association gone wild!

enUh huh! No room in the inn or the HOA for peace, love, and joy!!

Actually, I would rather live nextdoor to the Griswalds than live somewhere that is so suffocating!!! Patooey!!

Rockin' good post!

I heard that they backed down after all the attention this story got. Who knew wishing people peace could be so controversial

Of course! When I see a peace sign, it automatically makes me think of the devil.
Some folks just have too much time on their hands. Or maybe it's misdirected anger.
We should all pitch in and help pay the fines so they can keep it up until Jan. 1!

Oh yay! I'm glad they backed down after they got some heat for being crazy lunatics. Common sense and decency has won out after all! Hooray!

Peace out,
Motr

Whatever. Doesn't the Loma Linda Homeowner's Association have anything better to do with their time? Imagine if they took all that energy and did something GOOD with it!!
