MotR's Tips on What Not to Buy

It's definitely time to give some money to charity if you've considered buying any of the following:

Silky Pink Highchair Cover
Cuter than a Duck's Butt, $92

I refuse to buy a highchair cover that is fancier than my underwear. Period.

The Stadium Bundt Pan
Williams and Sonoma, $32

Because when you already have the Sandcastle Bundt Pan and the Cathedral Bundt Pan, there's really just one more pan that will make your collection complete.

Mini Straw Bales and Small Mice, Set of Three
Pottery Barn, Regular $19.99 mice, $14.00 straw bales

I think "what the fuck" really covers it all on this one. I mean, could Pottery Barn come up with anything stupider than this?

Oh wait....

They did!

Introducing...

Spooky Manzanita Branch and Faux Barn Owl
Pottery Barn, Regular $40.00

I think that Pottery Barn owes everyone an apology for assuming that we would ever shell out 40 bucks for this. I mean, really, am I the only one who's insulted here? Sheesh.

Question: What's up with Beta Blogger? I've been trying to leave comments on a couple blogs that use Beta and it won't let me. It's driving me nutso. Help! Anyone?

You can never have enough mice infesting your house...I guess.

Of course you have to buy both the mice and the owl to keep the rodent population under control.

Is Pottery Barn also selling nice, big fatties tied together with raffia ribbon?

The highchair cover looks dangerous. Slip and slide right out, anyone?

That highchair slip cover looks like a big scrunchy.

Yes, the owl is insane and I have a general gripe with Pottery Barn for charging extra to ship to Alaska, though it costs them nothing extra to do so.

As for Beta. . . I switched today in fact and all my profile comment pictures have disappeared and some of the comment names have been changed to "anonymous" so I can't access them and reply! Is this normal? Are these names lost forever? I scoured the "known issues" section before switching and this wasn't mentioned.

Um, yeah, because I want all my relatives to think I have mice. But if you're going to have the mice, you might as well get the owl to take care of your mouse problem, right? Right?

I actually know someone who owns the stadium bundt pan. She has too much free time. We'll just leave it at that.

And the highchair cover. Wow. Aside from looking like a giant schrunchy (you're so right, Mona), you couldn't actually let your child EAT in that thing. I bet it's dry clean only too. Of course.

Wow. Where do you find this stuff? Can you imagine that someone probably has that mouse and straw thing in their house?? You know they've sold at least one! I don't know about blogger beta, it's making me crazy...I can't wait til they get all these kinks out!

You have SAVED me from serious error and I OWE you big time!! Heh.

Seriously, those were strange items. Just goes to show you people will buy ANYTHING!!

"Mini Straw Bales and Small Mice, Set of Three"

I cannot even imagine the decor that this would look appropriate in. Anyone have an abandoned barn they were thinking of accessorizing?

OMG, Mona, that highchair cover does look like a big scrunchy. LMAO.

Scribbit: re. the Beta issues you are having, I'm not sure. I haven't switched to beta yet even though Blogger is pressuring me at every turn. I'm hoping your problems are just temporary. Maybe someone else commenting here will know.

Oh boy...the owl in the tree thing is going to give me nightmares. I am kind of digging the stadium bundt pan, although lacking a creative side, I somehow think that would be lost on me.
I am with you on the Beta Blogger thing, too! I have tried to leave comments on several blogs, to no avail! Grrrrr!

Oh my - gross!

Mice and owls - if you get one, I guess you'd better get both...

10:37 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

ohhh, I like the shiny, pink, silky, martian looking highchair cover. don't you?

People will buy anything if they have the money, or odd sense for it.

Will Beta let you comment if you use the "Other" or "Anonymous" identities? (With "Other" you can even leave your link.)

It's very lonely over here in Beta lately!

11:11 AM
Blogger Cristina said...

B&P: sometimes Beta allows me to comment using the "other" identity, but other times it hasn't allowed me to comment using "other" even after I try multiple times. I don't get it. I must be doing something wrong.

Maybe the owl is just Pottery Barn's lame assed attempt to get in on the Harry Potter craze.

I've actually been wanting the sandcastle pan! I think the stadium pan would be cool too, but only for someone who bakes non stop (like me).

Oy, those are some wierd ass gifts. Rich people are odd, are they not??

I kind of dig that fake owl thingy...

It's so damn cheesy it's kinda cool. ;)

Radioactive Girl: I have to admit that I do think that the sandcastle pan is pretty cute and would be fun for kids. The stadium pan is stretchin it a bit for me though. LOL. Maybe it I were a football fan, I'd feel differently! However, if someone were to, say, bake me a cake in the shape of a stadium, I wouldn't complain. Especially if it were chocolate. :)

Beta is being snarky. It won't let non-beta-ers comment on Beta blogs. It is maddening.

Mice? As decor? Weirdos.

I don't have any bundt pans that look like buildings of any kind. So...that one sorta looks okay to me.

I heard that Pottery Barn just hired "weirdo taxidermist girl" as their new buyer.

I'm having the same problem with the beta, so I'm just not using my blogger log in.

I think I saw versions of all of these products at the Dollar Tree today... so if anyone's interested in buying them, I'll sell them for cheap.:-)

6:14 PM
Blogger Lisa said...

Ok. I though Blogger was just sticking it to me... I'm in good company then... (But I still hate blogger!)

On the items for sale... Yeah, no way in hell I'd be buying them. (Course if they were in a garage sale for $5.00 my mil would buy them then shove them off on me... SO I might "get" one at some point, afterall.

That highchair cover is NOT cuter than a duck's butt, it looks like a duck's butt. Gawdy! I have no idea what is the matter with Pottery Barn.

C'mon! I love those new bundt pans - the train one rocks!

But the high chair cover is ridiculous. That would never withstand saliva-moistened Cheerios, let alone Yo-Baby yogurt.

8:41 PM
Blogger Cristina said...

OK, yes. The train one is very cute, which is why it didn't make my list here.

But a stadium bundt cake pan? I refuse to encourage my husband to watch more football. Refuse, I say!

seriously...pottery barn?

the really interesting thing would be to learn how well they are selling...

i mean, whoa. nothing says Xmas like some mice on hay.

Those are some crazy items. The mice thing really freaked me out! The blogger beta thing gets the big middle finger from me. Screw you BLOGGER BETA!!

Mice???
you know Cristina, you could phot shop the mice into the owl's mouth as it sits on the high chair with the stadium below...

Yeah... What'sup with Beta??/ Thought it was just me that could not post my 'witty' remarks...

And I would like to personally meet the person who makes a cake with the Stadium Bundt pan.

The mice and the owl have me in stitches. I have never, ever seen anything like that in. my. life.

Perhaps that's because we don't have PB's here, LOL. Which I'm thinking maybe is a good thing.

OMG, I saw the hay and mice and wondered the same thing.

I have to admit, though, the sandcastle Bundt pan would be kinda fun....

Ha ha that is hilarious! Why not just leave food and nesting material in your garage, then you could have the mice for free.

It's not just you - BB has been driving me crazy. Sometimes I can't even comment as other or anon.

I'm having issues with BB too. Apparently no one can comment on my page right now. ARGH!

7:25 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

The mice one is my favorite! Mice? We spend money trying to get rid of mice not display them!

One thing I learned with the commenting that might help is when you open the comment page, click on other or anonymous FIRST. Then type in your comment. It has worked better for me that way.

I know that there seems to be a problem that is peculiar to the last couple of days. In the past few weeks I had been able to comment on Beta blogs even though I hadn't switched yet. I think they are allowing almost everyone to switch now so maybe that is the problem.

Anyway... thanks for the laughs!

P.S. One more thing... I do think that I have left comments on a couple of blogs, hit post, thought I saw the comment there only to go back later and it wasn't there.

Either someone is trying to gaslight me (ref. movie with Ingrid Bergman), I am really going crazy, or it is a Blogger gremlin.

9:51 PM
Blogger Cristina said...

Thanks for the tips, Mary Lue.

I will try the anonymous thing.

I've also noticed that I can usually post a comment if I log in with my Google Account username. This isn't my MotR blog username though so it doesn't link back to my blog but it lets me comment so it's better than nuthin!

p.s. Blogger gremlin (hee!)

I can make those high chair covers and they are NOT worth $92 unless you are using some very rare handwoven silk or something...and only maybe then.

I must say I've considered buying that bundt pan for my MIL, who hosts a Grey Cup (football north of the border) party every November. On my birthday weekend.

(Of course I should shut up, since I do have the sand castle and the trains. erm.)
