40 weeks, 1 Day

I am now officially overdue. In a way, I'm not surprised. Lately, I've been late for everything - why not be late having a baby too?

I'm now on to trying out natural induction techniques. After checking out the Internet (where I go for all my official medical advice) I have found a few things I'm going to try out first. On the list are:

1) eating spicy food
2) taking a bouncy car ride
3) eating pineapple
4) walking
5) having sex

So far today, I have done 4 out of these 5 things. I'm not going to say which item I have yet to cross off my list, but I will say that pineapple is now officially out of season.

I will also say that having sex while 40 weeks pregnant is no easy feat, but it beats the heck out of checking into the hospital for a Pitocin drip, kwim?

I recommend just giving in to the wait. The spudlet will come when the spudlet is ready. Plus, the more overdue you are, the more people freak out when they ask you your due date.

People visibly shrunk back from me when I told them I was 10 days late with my daughter. It was very funny!

Can't agree more about #5... worked for all three of my pregnancies. Also drink some raspberry tea! Go for a 9 month chiropractor adjustment if you can- I did that and went into labor the next day. (I also was drinking the raspberry tea and doing the other thing, too.) : )

Totally hope you had the baby by the time you read this anyway!

Wishing you the best!

Might I suggest letting your husband know that things like shopping for insanely high thread count sheets, sparkly jewelry and decadent Sephor orders have all been scientifically proven to speed labor and alleviate irrational mood swings...

If you start following all of this advice, be sure and have your laptop packed and ready to go.

How else are you going to type while you're delivering???

Nipple stimulation. Just saying. It releases oxytocin which is nature's pitocin. Here's a link.

I was a week late and scheduled for a c-section if I didn't go into labor by the following day. Well, I no likey the c-section (I wanted my v-bac) so we had sex. Lots of it and I went into labor that night. Coincidence? Maybe. Maybe not!

Haha! You forgot to list taking laxatives. I walked miles, and went off roading every day for a week...and my second child was still EIGHT days late.
Good luck with all of this! I hope baby comes soon for you! :)

I went into labor after walking. But not just a little walking - I went on a downtown hike with my husband setting the pace, while pushing a stroller, on a hot day.

I felt like my legs were going to fall off, but labor started about an hour afterwards.

i can sympathize -- i was late to nearly every doctor's appointment, the baby was five days late and we were late to the induction. a c-section came 12 hours later. i would do it all again in a heartbeat. good luck. have fun. enjoy every minute!

I second nipple pinching. The first baby I had that was 11 days late? I was pinching the hell out of my nipples. Nothing. Second kid? After I knew how to milk myself (ewww... but also true)? You can get those contractions going pretty easy. I think the trick is just to accurately impersonate a nursing child's motions.

Good luck. And now you know I love you because I am committing this uber gross comment to publish.

It sounds weird, but the nipple stim really works. Don't bother with pinching, just go in the shower and turn a strong stream of water on 'em.

And ask your doctor to "strip the membrane."

The things we'll do to get the damn baby out! Good luck.

Jumping on tramplonies works too - or so I've heard!

Hope that baby isn't getting too comfortable in there!

I had gestational diabetes, so my ob said that she'd induce a week early. But b/c the baby wasn't overly big she said I could wait...She finally induced when I was 1 week passed my due date. I was pissed.

Nothing worked to get my little guy to move along, but the sex was pretty fun!

I'm learning alot from all of these comments.

(I got the pitosin because dr was worried I had toxemia. So my kiddo arrived on his due date. Which wierdly enough was the one year anniversary of a d&c I had for a miscarriage. Wierd, eh?)

Hope that baby comes soon. :-)

Castor oil is supposed to work too...but only if you're already dilated. Hope baby comes soon!!!

Don't listen to these people! Don't listen! ;) DEFINITELY skip the castor oil! Being 40 weeks pregnant and having explosive diarrhea is a BAD THING. My friend tried it and was having contractions combined with explosive diarrhea and NO BABY! :)I listened to this kind of advice, ate a can of beets, drank a glass of chanpagne and promptly threw up. Makes that pitocin dip sound better and better, doesn't it? None of it works. The stubborn sucker will come out when he/she is good and ready. ;)

Whoa! I've missed a whole bunch while away moving and whatnot! And now you're overdue! Hmmm, your checklist looks en par, but you've left out one important detail: the prego pizza. I swear it worked for all my pals who tried it! Find a pizza joint that offers one of these bad boys up and call me from the delivery room!!!! Ha!

walk walk walk walk walk. And when you feel like your gonna die if you take one more step, walk a little longer.

Then come home and have sex WHILE squeezing the heck out of your nipples.

Proven method. =o)

p.s. Pumpkin is funny. tee hee

I was there about this time last year! Nothing worked ... until the night of the full moon, bwa-ha-ha-ha....

Although my friend moved heavy furniture to start her labor.

Hope things go great!
