A poem
Today I would like to share a poem written by Lucille Clifton, who is an award-winning poet and author of children’s books. Her poem is entitled, "September Songs, A Poem in Seven Days" and was inspired by the events of September 11th. I have copied some of her verses below.
Tuesday
thunder and lightning and our world
is another place no day
will ever be the same no blood
untouched
they know this storm in otherwheres
israel ireland palestine
but God has blessed America
we sing
and God has blessed America
to learn that no one is exempt
the world is one all fear
is one all life all death
all one
You can listen to her recite the first two days of her poem here.

Thank you. That's exactly the idea I've been groping for lately, and I'm so glad you found someone who expressed it so well.
That was really wonderful. How did you find her? Thanks for posting the link.
Babaloo: I happened to hear her recite her poem on the Jim Lehrer Report the other night. It's really beautiful when you hear her read it aloud.
Great choice. Lucille Clifton is awe-inspiring.
