If you thought my last post was depressing...

...just wait until you read my post over at the Imperfect Parent.

Keywords: Halloween, health, lead, lead poisoning, toxic, toys

I promise to come back with something a little cheerier next time.

What IS this world coming to?! I had no idea about these hidden dangers so I appreciate you sharing this info. We have typically avoided costumes with masks in the past just because they are so uncomfortable. This year, however, it is unavoidalbe as my son is going as Darth Vader. I'll have to check the label (if it isn't BLACKED OUT!). How do they get away with that?! Thanks again for the heads up. I hate to think what I inhaled over the years wearing those creepy plastic masks as a kid...although, that would explain a lot. Hmmmm.

This is really great information, though. It's too easy to be caught up in the festivity of cute costumes (me especially) that we forget how sinister companies can be. Whenever I look at photos of when I was a kid, I see soooo many dangers. Rickety-looking high-chairs and walkers. Yes, I had the plastic masks and plastic fingernails. Who knows what residual toxins still linger? I'm surprised I'm not radioactive!

Thanks for this article! I had no idea that you could find lead in some candy. I mean that is crazy, because candy is meant to be ingested.

I'm glad you guys found the article helpful!

Tracie: you might know this already, but just wanted to clarify that the candy that is likely to have lead in it is some of the candy that we import from Mexico and some other foreign countries. In my post, I linked to an article with more information.

I found it a bit scary that at my neighborhood 98cents store there is a whole row of this candy. I informed the manager about the danger of selling it and even brought him an article, but they've done nothing about it.

Sick. Just sick. Thank you for posting about this. I'll be going home to test a toddler spiderman costume, including mask. I'll be whoopin' some ass if I find it.
