No Funnies Today

One of my favorite bloggers just announced that she's calling it quits. I've never met her in person or even talked to her on the phone, but I've been visiting her blog for several months now and she's visited mine, and it's weird but I feel like I'm losing someone who is a if-we-lived-in-the-same-town-we-would-have-definitely-made-a-coffee-date kinda blog friend. And she's leaving. For good. Kaput. Gone.

Part of the reason she's leaving is due to this whole Bitacle thing. If you haven't heard of it, read Andrea's post here. She does a great job of explaining what's happening. In a nutshell, these Bitacle people are stealing people's blog content, putting it on their site without permission, and making money off of ads placed aside our blog content. I found out that my entire blog is on their site, as is the content of many other bloggers that I read. Grrr. Makes me so mad!

So, no funnies today. I'm covering all the mirrors in my house and entering a state of blogger mourning.

I'll be coming by to visit you though. Sorry that I've been a bit behind on my commenting lately. Hopefully, you'll even have some good news for me when I stop in. Like you won the lottery and are going to take everyone on your blogroll to the Bahamas. That would sure cheer me up.

*********
P.S. I have a new post up at The Imperfect Parent. I've even allowed them to put up a picture of me. Eeek. I had to take about 45 shots with my digital camera to get one that looked semi-decent. Luckily, half of my face is shadowed, which is why I chose it. Too bad there's no hiding my big nose. *sigh*

Wow! That shnoz is huge!! :)

Well what did you think I was going to say? You are lovely, my dear. And no your nose is not big at all.

I've been debating whether or not to write anything about Mama T and the Bitacle thing. I'm seriously pissed off about the whole debacle. Pissed off and terribly sad.

It's always a sad day when we lose a good blogger. Every day I post and say in my head "this is my last one." It hasn't actually happened yet.

I have mixed feelings on the bitacle thing. Definitely annoying, thievery and overall shitty, the bastards should pay. On the other hand I know my content isn't safe from anything. I already have a long list of crooks and a-holes I'm battling, not sure I have time for one more at the moment. They aren't worth my energy. I know that sounds complacent and lazy and probably allowing things like this to happen, I just feel I rather take my son to the park then do searches, emails, etc. But then again some bloggers are actually great writers, not like me saying things like “Cricket took a crap today.” If I actually put a ton of effort into it, I’d probably feel much differently. Now if I run into them on the street, they will surely regret it.

Oh my gosh. I never heard of the Bitacle thing. That's terrible!

FYI - I just went to Bitacle, searched for you, found the RSS feed to today's post, clicked on it and it opened your blog. Seems like an improvement at least.

Yes, I've read about the Bitacle thing from a couple other bloggers. Personally, I am saddened that there are people out there that feel "violated" and are choosing to be done blogging.

Me, I guess I just don't have the time or the energy to get too upset about it. I did find a couple posts from my blog on the Bitacle site, but do i think I will lose my own readers because of it? No, I'm not that great of a writer anyways, and I can lose someone's interest just fine without the help of another site! LMAO

They're still wrong to do it, though. And that sucks.

I feel the same way about the mourning and Mamatulip leaving. I hate to see her go, and I know I'm not the one responsible for her leaving, but I'm the one who emailed her about it, so I FEEL somewhat responsible. (Please don't throw rocks at me!) I tried to talk her out of it, but I understand her feelings (I feel the same way, except for the wanting to leave part). But part of me still can't help feeling like I started it. And that makes me sad.

You're a beauty, so I don't know what you're smokin.

Mama c-ta: I don't think you're lazy for not doing anything about the Bitacle thing. I myself barely find enough time to blog, let alone chase after people trying to steal my content so I hear what you're saying. I did send them an e-mail for the record requesting that they delete my content (which I'm sure they'll ignore) but other than that I'm not sure how much more I'll do.

Oh the Joys: I'm glad they're providing the links back to our blogs now. At least that's something. Thanks for the info.

J: I'm not really worried about losing readers b/c of Bitacle either. I guess my main problem with it is that they never even asked for our permission to post our content or our pictures (they are also posting people's entire Flicker accounts) which seems like a violation of privacy (yeah, I know we're vulnerable on the Net but still) and seemingly a copyright enfringement since they were not originally crediting the authors of the blogs apparently. AND they were placing ads on our blogs on their sites. Like you said, it just seems wrong no matter how you slice it - even if it might not impact my personal site in any way.

Andrea: pleeeease don't feel bad for posting or e-mailing us about Bitacle. If not for you and others who mentioned this, I wouldn't even have known about it. And I'd rather know than not know, you know? I'm sure Mama Tulip feels the same. I'm so glad you're going to keep blogging. I would hate to see this Bitacle thing cause any more bloggers to shut down.

All: thanks for the nice words about my picture. Though now I feel like I was fishing for compliments, which I was not. I mean, not really. Though I must admit it helps to hear people say my schnozz is not big. Even though I know it is. (The picture really doesn't do it justice.) It's still nice to hear. :)

I hope MamaTulip comes back to blogging, I'm going to miss her so much. Bitacle seems to have changed so that posts now link directly to the author's blog, but they still are using posts without permission. I apparently am such a sucky blogger that my content isn't worth stealing, which I guess is okay.

And sweetie, I've seen you in person, albeit briefly, and you are ADORABLE and there is nothing wrong with your nose!

I have a different view of the Bitacle thing. It makes me angry, but I am not going to let them chase me away. I don't like that they're making money using my writing, but I put a caveat in each post, and now they are linking to me. I write because it works for me --- and the a$$holes at Bitacle have tarnished it a bit, but I won't let them steal my joy. True, if we stopped they'd make less money, but they'd just find someone else to swipe. I'm sorry it has gotten to some so much that they call it quits. Not me.

I know. I felt like someone kicked me in the stomach when I read about mama tulip. Guess I need to look and see if my blog is being pirated. I'm afraid to look.

I just read about this bitacle thing. Annoys the hell out of me. I haven't found any of my stuff there yet, but that does not mean that its not there, just that I haven't found it yet.

It makes me angry that they're getting money from ads--who's allowing them to collect cash on pirated content? If GoogleAds or Adsense are involved they ought to be ashamed.

First and foremost, you are gorgeous, dah-link.

Second. Thanks for the kind words and support. For me, personally, I'd really been struggling over the last few weeks with whether or not I wanted to keep blogging or not. I had blogger burnout and a part of me just didn't want to blog anymore, which surprised me, because up until that point I'd always wanted to blog. Always.

And then the bitacle thing happened and for me, it was enough. I'd just had it by that point. Bitacle wasn't the sole reason I quit, but like I said in my post, it sealed the deal for me. I'm glad that other bloggers aren't being run off by bitacle, but for me, it simply sucked the remaining fun out of blogging for me.

That stupid Bitacle is causing all sorts of problems. I hope people are able to shut them down soon.

Strangely, I don't know whether to be happy or insulted that they haven't stolen my content yet?

#1 I liked the blog about being in a hurry. I leave time, you should leave time. Don't try to piss me off because you didn't plan well! (unless I'M the one who's in a hurry...then getthehell outta my way!)

#2 I like the pic

#3 How does that Bitacle thing work? 'Cause I found a few of my blog entries on there, but only w/i a 9 day period. W/ one entry from that time not there. And I didn't see any ads when I clicked on it. Just my blogger page...

Honestly I'd rather have that to deal with than cyberstalking. That would more likely be the reason I would quit.

Wow - thanks for the tip. I had seen Bitacle come up in my stats, but I didn't know what it was. Grrr... I guess people who make choices to be assholes just have to live life as assholes. That must be punishment enough.

UGh, Bitacle. They've got some of my posts up too. You know, I don't care so much about the writing, it's not award winning stuff by any means, but the pictures of my kids. THAT'S the thing that made me feel queasy. I wish they were hot-linking the images so I could just delete them, but they have them saved to their own image folder. Pics of MY kids. EW!
I've been blogging for almost 4 years now, and this is the first time I've ever really questioned what I'm doing.

I'm so sad about MT closing up shop. That really sucks.

As for Bitacle, I feel fortunate that for the moment, I'm not being ripped off but if they start, I'm putting a notice at the beginning of every post that says NOT to click their Google ads because they profit from stolen content. I think that will make them stop faster than anything else.

And what big nose are you talking about? It's not big. You're adorable and so is your nose. I've seen you in person so I know!
