It Hurts to Type

It hurts to type.

It hurts to breathe.

It hurts to carry the kid.

It hurts to lie down.

It hurts to stand.

It hurts to sit.

It hurts to bend over.

It hurts to have sex.

It even hurts to sneeze. Actually, scratch that, I can't sneeze at all. When I take in a breath that deep, it feels like someone is stabbing me in the back with a knife and the sneeze just goes away. *Poof* Even my sneezes are scared.

Apparently, although I am still in my 20s (4 more glorious months left *sniff*), I am already way too old to think that I can just saunter into the gym and work out after having been completely inactive for two whole years. Apparently, I am also too lame to actually stretch before I do my work outs (duh) and now I am enjoying the consequences of my idiocy.

Because, although I haven't yet seen a doctor, it seems that I have pulled something. A muscle or muscles that I didn't know I had. Somewhere in the middle, right-half of my back.

Criminey, what have I done? I am just hoping it goes away in a couple of days.

Oh, and did I say *ouch*? Cuz, ouch.

Ouch, indeed. See, that's why I don't workout - I know it's just going to hurt! :)

Take some motrin and relax as much as possible.

Owwie. And ITA with Christina. I am now totally justified in *not* working out! Wait, I just vowed to start working out regularly a few days ago....Darn it!

Have some wine. It helps.

You definitely overdid it. Take it easy and then...when you're ready...start again slowly.

That sounds like when I bruised a rib. I hope you recover quickly.

You need pain relief of your preference and a long soak in the tub.

Look at it this way, now that you're hurt you have an excuse not to exercise. And I applaud you on even attempting the sex thing when you're in so much pain. ;)

You need to keep moving. Take some ibuprofin and walk walk walk. If you stay still you are just going to seize up even more.

Good you are back at the gym, why were you away so long foolish woman? Oh ya, you are still in your twenties and can get away with it;)

Ouch, curl up next to a heating pad instead of your hubby tonight.

Oh, and enjoy those last four months. For me, turning 30 was the thing that really hurt.

I'll be 30 in 4 months too. Eek. That sounds painful. The only cure I know of is to NEVER go to the gym. Ever.

Don't stretch beforehand. Warm up - which is what people really DON'T do, they just dive right in - and then stretch afterward when your muscles are warm.

Other than that, I really can't talk. I fell while rollerblading nearly ten days ago, and my shoulder still hurts.

Oh my! I hope the pain subsides!

I've only pulled a muscle a few tiems....once I was over working myself to impress a guy (I was in college at the school gym). What a loser I was!

Yikes. A doctor will just give you drugs. Try a nice massage and, if you are a junkie, a chiro adjustment. Oh, and wine.

As with Lawyer Mama, I haven't yet started to fulfill my 40-something b-day promise to get back on that workour bandwagon.

Feel better!

Take lots of ibuprophen and long soaks in hot baths. My husband used to do tree work full time....so I know all about the pulled muscels in the back. At least I know how to help someone to feel better. I don't know anything about it from personal experience becuase the most exercise I do is using the remote to change the channel :)

Take it easy!! I hope you feel better soon!

Let's see, doesn't sound like anything that a few martinis won't fix!!!

Then, try again in a few days! :)

I do the same thing, push it too hard when I start a new routine, then regret it the next day. My husband always does the "I told you so thing" that earns him NO POINTS.

Back pain is the worst! (I'm a little sore myself from my first aerobics class in, well, forever!)

Take some ibuprofen. Have a glass of wine and take it easy :)

Oy. Hot bath. And a glass of wine. Loosen you right up.

Don't you know that exercise is BAD for you? Lord, I thought EVERYONE knew that!

Starting out slow didn't enter your mind? LOL. We've all done it, thinking we can pick up where we left off. I hope you are less achy soon.

Hope you're feeling better soon; will some aspirin, Ben-Gay, and tequila help?

But thanks for the reminder: I'll need to EASE back in to my exercise routine. I think the first session will last about 20 seconds and involve me bending slightly to the right.

Oh I hear ya. Yesterday I tried doing the monkey bars at the playground and now it feels like my ribs are broken.

When I go to the gym I do practically nothing. But hey, I went to the gym!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it goes downhill after 40! :)

I find just running on the treadmill for 15 minutes does that to me...no fun!

My advice? Motrin, hot bath, and a nice glass of wine....makes everything feel better. Everything.

First, good for you for going to the gym and working out.

Second, the advice from mothergoosemouse is good. Warm up with cardio for 5-10 beforehand, stretch afterwards.

Third, regarding ibuprofen. If you did pull something, take the ibuprofen every six hours for a few days. People take it when stuff hurts, but they neglect to take it around the clock for the best anti-inflammatory effect.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

Oh you poor thing!!! OK, I know you don't want to hear this...but if you get a massage, it will help. It will hurt at the time, but it will get the toxins out of your muscles, which is what is causing the soreness. You poor thing. Perhaps hubby could assist? And take some motrin and rest!!!

Get a massage - pronto! Surely you pulled something and it's tightened up. Find some big galunk named Sven or Hans and ask him to kindly work out your knots. It'll hurt, but then you'll be miraculously healed.

OOOhhhh...I hope you feel better IMMEDIATELY!

If it's any consolation, I'm in pretty good shape, but I did "squats" yesterday for the first time in quite a while...I pulled a muscle in my neck and my legs are so sore, I have been walking around all day as though I sat on a cantaloupe...yeah. real flattering.
